What are the four types of damage to rubber parts?

Mar 13, 2022

Rubber parts are a common component in sealing devices and play a very important role in sealing. The more common seals are rubber pieces. The four main damage forms and effects of rubber parts and the three performance characteristics of rubber parts are as follows.

Four types of damage to rubber parts and their effects

1. Wear: The friction between the seal and the metal surface causes the seal to wear. Metal surface roughness is too high, too tight and other factors to slow down this wear.

2. Gap extrusion deformation: The seal changes under high pressure and enters the sealing surface gap. Movement between the seal and the seal groove will facilitate this process. Gap extrusion can cause complete damage to the seal, tear or fracture of the surface, and plastic deformation.

3. Flip: This type of problem is the use of lip seals (such as rubber seals in hydraulic cylinders), which are characterized by partial extrusion of the seal from the groove. When the hydraulic equipment is running, the pressure in the sealing groove is very high. This pressure acts on the root of the seal and the root is worn. Under friction, the seal flips over and disengages from the seal groove. The sealing lip is cut or pressed out, the seal is completely damaged.

4. Valley crack: The depression of the lip seal is the place where the stress is concentrated, and it is easy to crack under pressure impact.
