The Role Of The Torsion Bar

Mar 09, 2022

When the left and right wheels pass through the same bump or hole in the road surface, the anti-roll bar does not work. However, if the left and right wheels pass through different road bumps or holes, that is, when the horizontal heights of the left and right wheels are different, the shaft will be twisted, resulting in Roll Resistance to restrain the body from rolling. That is to say, when the left and right suspensions move up and down synchronously, the anti-roll bars will not work, and only when the left and right suspensions move asynchronously due to road undulations or steering turns, the anti-roll bars will work. Anti-roll bars only stiffen the ride when they are in action, unlike stiff springs that stiffen the ride. If you want to completely rely on springs to reduce the roll of the body, you may need very hard springs, and you need to use shock absorbers with a high damping coefficient to suppress the bounce of the springs. In this way, we have to bear hard springs and shock absorbers. The sequelae caused by the device, such as roadability and poor tracking when traveling on uneven roads. But with the right anti-roll bars, you can not only reduce roll, but also do not have to sacrifice due comfort and tracking. Therefore, the combination of anti-roll bars and springs is a feasible way to achieve a compromise between roadability and handling.
